A West Point graduate and millionaire, he joined the French Foreign Legion and earned multiple decorations including the Croix de Guerre. He led his battalion to capture Sommauthe on November 4th. Despite exposing himself to danger, he managed to keep his on the line. Photograph taken in the eastern region of Oohes, Ardennes, France. Released by Censor on December 23, 1918."
