HARD GREASE PRESS .\ press lor forming the grease cakes used in dri\ing boxlubricators, as well as candles for rod grease cups has been de-veloped by the Franklin Railway Supply Co., 30 Church York. The device consists of a box for holding the greasewhich is closed at one end by a plunger operated by a 16 in. by12 in. air cylinder and at the other by the form through whichthe grease is pressed. A form cover which may be slipped overthe end of the form is provided to facilitate compressing in tlie b .x into a compact cake before it is pressed throughthe form. When the cover is removed and air admitted to the cylinder, grease is forced out through the form onto a table where it may becut into suitable lengths by means of the knife held betweenguides shown in the illustration. It being almost itnpossible to re-. press for Forming Driving Box Grease Cakes mii\e the form by hand from the end of the grease box, owing tothe lindy of grease which is partly in the box and partly in thei. irm. a small vertical cylinder has been placed under the form, with its piston acting against the bottom of the form. When airis admitted to the low-er end of this cylinder the grease is shearedat the end of the box, and the form raised high enough so that itmay be readily removed. A spring above the piston insures itsreturn to the lower end of the cylinder when the pressure is re-moved.
