From the atove given data of the percentage of voids in thesand and ntone, computationn were made (Bakers Masonry Construc-tion page 156a), and it was decided to make a test specimitn ofconcrete of the proportions 1:3:6. This was done and showed verysatisfactory results so that, although this is not so rich asused cy some experimenters, these proportions were adopted forall the beams. All the materials were measured by loose the mixing was done by hand on steel plate. The cementand sand were first thoroughly mixed dry. The stone was thenadded and the whole turned twice before being wetted, afterwhich it was turned until the whole mass was of uniform plastici-ty and all the stones appeared, to be coated with 12/^y bj^ volume, of water wts used. Six cubes made fromconcrete taken from various batches were stored in water sixtydays and tested, developing the following strengths. Co rr? pr<? :5s ) Tests (^^n Sin. Cuibes. Mo.
