[3] Athenaeus, iv. 25. p. 182, 183, reckons up many forts of mufical inftru-ments with firings. Pollux, lib. iv. cap. ix. f. 59, &c. alfo gives us a confiderablenumber. They both mention among the reft the triangle. Socrates in Athenaeus, callsthis inftrument fyvyiov. And one of the guefts in this author fays, that one Alex-ander Alexandrinus played fo well upon this inftrument; that,
