A small American flag left on the names at the National September 11 Memorial in New York City.
The National September 11 Memorial opened its doors to the general public, one day after the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the USA. On Sunday, September 11, the memorial was the scene of the 9/11 memorial ceremonies, and was open to the families of the victims. The memorial is a tribute to the people killed in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The memorial also includes the victims of the bombing of the World Trade Center, which occurred in 1993. Visitors to the memorial were able to view the names of those who perished memorialized around the perimeter of the memorials two pools. It was a time of reflection and remembrance. Some visitors left flowers, flags, or messages on the memorial. Others created rubbings of the names of the victims.
