Uric acid calculi vary in size from amillet seed to a hens egg. They aresmooth, or only slightly roughened onthe surface, of a light brown, reddishor mahogany color; and of a flattenedoval form. On section they are foundto be composed of concentric laminae, presenting a variety of shades of color. Sediments of the urate of ammoniaare quite common, but completelyformed calculi of this variety are seldom attain much size, and in form they resemble the uricacid calculi, but their color is generally characteristic, being in mostcases much lighter than the latter, and of a pale fawn. In this regard, however, there is considerable variation. They are compact, seldomlamellated, brittle, and they break with a fine earthy Uric Acid Crystals. Fig. 398.
