Atmospheric sulphur measurement. Scientist measures the levels of dimethyl sulphide gas in the atmosphere using gas chromatography. This gas contains sulphur and may play a role in climate stabilisation. It is produced naturally by microscopic creatures (plankton) in the oceans. In the atmosphere, dimethyl sulphide can react to form acidic particles. These particles may affect the properties of clouds. Gas chromatography separates chemicals due to their different flow rates through certain mediums. Photographed at the Cape Grim Baseline Air Pollution Station in Tasmania, Australia.
