Serious bleeding of gum (gummosis) from the trunk of a scale insect infested Apricot 'Tomcot' fruit tree.

This Apricot 'Tomcot' growing on a south-facing wall was initially a healthy tree and prolific fruit bearer, but succumbed to a serious infestation of scale insect which resulted in some die-back. This infestation and die-back allowed bacterial canker to penetrate, resulting in the condition known as 'gummosis', the bleeding of sticky gum from the bark. The tree was dug a up and burnt.
