These gentlemen,being safe and conservative, started the bank on a. 286 THE BIG SANDY VALLEY. capital of $50,000, but some time after increased thecapital stock to $100,000, all paid in. The steady growth of the business of the bankwas so great that the stock-holders in 1885 foundit necessary to provide more extensive quarters fortheir prosperous business. They procured the loton the north-east corner of Division and CenterStreets, being the most eligible corner in town, onwhich they erected a bank building, which, forbeauty of architectural design, substantiality ofconstruction, convenience of internal and externalarrangements, and general appearance, is equal tothe finest buildings for similar purposes in thegreat cities of the country. It is altogether thehandsomest building in Catlettsburg, a little citynow noted for its many handsome structures forboth private and public uses. The walls of the basement are built of ashleredstones, trimmed
