On January 8, 2018, hundreds gathered at the funeral of activist Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner who was murdered by New York police officer Daniel Pantaleo in 2014. Her father's death helped spark the BLM movement. Erica became a fierce advocate for racial equality and police reform and accountability. She died in December after lapsing into a coma following an asthma-induced heart attack. She leaves behind two children, a daughter, 8, and a son, 4 months.
