The Prince and the Sleeping Beauty published on May 8,1932 in the American Weekly magazine painted by Edmund Rose was a Princess, and when she was born the good fairies gave her beauty, amiability, virtue, wisdom and riches. Alas, one bad fairy who hadn't been invited to the christening declared that when she was fifteen she would prick herself with a spindle and die. A stronger fairy said she wouldn’t die- only sleep for a hundred years. Sure enough, when she was fifteen the Princess found a spindle, wounded herself and went to did her father and everybody and everything


In 1923, “Edmund Dulac, the Distinguished English Artist,” as he was billed on the covers, was contracted by the Hearst organization to paint watercolors for The American Weekly Sunday magazine. The contract lasted 30 years and Dulac painted 107 watercolors for thirteen different series until his last Arabian Nights in 1951.
