CORONADO, California (July 14, 2017) – Engineman Fireman Matthew Detig, assigned to Landing Craft Unit 1, acts as lead line handler on Landing Craft 1630 during a boarding operation with USS Essex (LHD 2). LCU 1’s mission is to conduct ship to shore movements and assist amphibious ships to obtain training qualifications to meet mission readiness.
