There is a diversity of opinion as to which are the best shaper cutters to do good work with. Although in some instances I favor the reversible cutter, of which very good ones are certainly made, yet to do all kinds of work, straight or bent, give me the common flat cut- ter every time. However, I do not mean just any kind of an old piece of flat iron filed to the required shape, but to do good work two cutters should always be made alike, with exactly the same shape to each one, so that they both do the work; and they should be exactly of the same bevel and size, so that they fit very nicely into the washers, as shown in Fig. 1.
