Mirak rocket test site, Germany, 1930. The Mirak rockets were one of the early designs built by the German Verein fur Raumschiffahrt (VfR, Spaceflight Society). The VfR, which was active from 1927 to 1933, carried out pioneering work that laid the foundations for space flight. The Mirak test launches failed, but these were followed by successful launches of Repulsor rockets. It is thought that this test was carried out at a farm in Bernstadt, Saxony, Germany, owned by the grandparents of VfR member Klaus Riedel.
