Monk noviciation (Shin-byu) ceremony, in New Bagan Burma


Shinbyu is the Burmese term for a novitiation ceremony (pabbajja) in the tradition of Theravada Buddhism, referring to the celebrations marking the samanera ordination of a boy under the age of pictures were taken of a family in New Bagan as they prepare their sons and daughters for the ceremony. They are then taken to the the event which is held in a small monastery nearby in the village were the monks discus the teachings of The Buddha.
