While this is anideal location when working steam, yetunless a relief valve is used there will belittle or no oil passing to the valve orcylinder with the throttle closed. Ascan be seen by referring to the figure,the steam channel forms a pocket, and. FIG. S. when the engine is drifting so that thereis no circulation through the steamchannel, the oil fed from the lubricatorwill naturally drop into this pocket andremain there until the condensed steampassing through the oil pipe rises to apoint where it can flow into the steamchest, and thus carry the oil which isfloating on top of this condensed steamin with it.
