The Trinity: the dove of the Holy Spirit flies above God the Father and Jesus Christ seated on clouds in this early 1700s painting on the wooden nave ceiling vault of the Eglise Saint-Martin (Church of St Martin) at Lévignacq in the Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France.

Lévignacq, Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France: this depiction of the Trinity, with God the Father and Jesus Christ seated on clouds below the dove of the Holy Spirit, was painted in the early 18th century on the wooden planks of the boat-shaped ceiling vault over the nave of the medieval Eglise Saint-Martin (Church of St Martin). The Trinity was one of three large biblical scenes painted in illusionist perspective on the ceiling vault between 1713 and 1715, probably by a Bordeaux-based painter named Jean or Jacques Fautier, a member of the Paris Academy of Art. All three are typical of grandiose Roman Catholic Counter-Reformation Baroque art, but are painted in in a distinctive rustic style. The church, in the Pays de Born countryside of the Landes des Gascogne, close to the French Atlantic coast, is filled with many other artworks such as lengthy friezes of male and female saints and the remains of 15th century frescoes in the choir vault.
