Clergy from the Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in Union Square Park in New York pray and anoint with ashes on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2014. The outreach in the park from the Gramercy Park neighborhood church is entitled Ashes & Prayer and all denominations of Christians were welcome to take part. This is the second year the church has offered ashes in Union Square to busy commuters and passerby. Last year the church anointed over 350 people. (© Richard B. Levine)
