Kumartuli, or Kumortuli, is an old neighorhood in northern Kolkata, West Bengal, home to a community of traditional idol makers and sculptors. These skilled artisans, known as kumars, are renowned for their sculpting prowess and have been crafting clay likeness of Goddess Durga and other deities for generations. In Hinduism, a murti or pratima is a sacred depiction of a deity.
