The young Chief was born at the Mohawk Village on the27th of September, 1794—being at the time of his fathers deceasethirteen years of age. He received a good English educationat Ancaster and Niagara, under the tuition of a Mr. RichardCockrel; but through life improved his mind greatly, by thestudy of the best English authors, by associations with goodsociety, and by travel.
