The coordinated protests taking place around the country on 1 June have been timed to coincide with anti-austerity protests across Europe. This ‘call to arms’ has been made by Benefit Justice, a coalition of campaign groups and trade unions opposed to the Government’s austerity programme of benefit cuts. The human costs of such cuts were demonstrated by the death of Stephanie Bottrill, according to the Benefit Justice movement.
