In the appeal to conscience, theright hand is laid on the breast, theleft drops unmoved, the eyes are fixedupon the person addressed (Fig. 80, ); sometimes both hands press thebreast. Shame in the extreme sinks on theknee, and covers the eyes with bothhands. (Fig. 104.) This is a femi-nine expression of it. Mild resignation falls on the knee,crosses the arms on the breast, and looks forwards andupwards towards heaven. (Fig. 105.)
