A German or Italian rapier, circa 1600, Assembled from old parts. Slender thrusting blade of diamond section with flattened medial ridge. The upper quarter with narrow fuller on both sides, the ricasso struck with a mark on either side. Plain iron swept hilt with S-shaped, curved quillons. Grip dating from circa 1700 with elaborate iron wire wrap and Turk's heads. Pear-shaped pommel richly engraved with acanthus leaves.
