19/10/14 Jane and Nigel Stock and their dog Holly marvel at an autumn scene of yellow Lime trees that may look very different tomorrow after forecast storms are due to rip leaves branches and possibly fell the mature trees along Lime Tree Avenue at Clumber Park, the longest of its kind in Europe, near Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Planted in 1840, it is two miles long with 1,296 common limes. In 1906 the trees were suffering from insect attack. To counter this a black grease bands was painted round the tree trunks to trap the insects, 100 years on the black bands are still visible. All Rights Reserved - F Stop Press.
