An 11" Trench Mortar Shell made by the Edward G. Budd Mfg. Co. in Philadelphia, PA, is shown in this photograph. The shell is made of 1/2" thick steel and is composed of two halves that are welded together. Copper pieces attached to the outside of the shell fit into the rifling of the mortar. The lower end of the shell displays the piston, while the upper end shows the adapter. This particular bomb was used for a Liberty Loan drive.
