In the caseof many moliusks, the body is enclosedby a hard shell, indeed the popularname shell-fish is often employed todesignate these creatures; but the termis used very loosely and inaccurately,and consequently it is misleading, forthe moliusks are in no way closely re-lated to the fishes, and moreover, manyof them have no shell at all.
