The Okavango River rises in Angola and after traveling almost 1000 kms is divided into countless streams , canals and lakes forming the Okavango Delta area called ( as in Botswana ) . Occupies 15,000 square kilometers this amazing gift of nature full of birds of all colors , hippos , crocodiles , impalas , zebras , elephants , buffalo , wild boar ... and water lilies , papyrus and most varied fauna. The safaris are made on foot or by boat. Wooden houses sharing a water fountain without light : behold the humble villages where life of its inhabitants were also visiting . Also moroko where to take tourists , their sources of income are small gardens , fishing and handicrafts . RECOMMENDATIONS If you are interested to see large mammals, the best time to visit the delta is from May to October, when the water is low. If you prefer green vegetation cover and angry birds , the best time is rainy , November to April. Accommodation located in the heart of the delta are private and are very expensive. The alternative are the camps and lodges government found in the peninsula of Moremi.
