Hfq bacterial regulator protein, molecular model. Hfq is a bacterial RNA-binding protein found in many Enterobacteria. This example is from the Escherichia coli bacterium. The protein forms a hexameric ring with the six-fold symmetry shown by the colours for the protein chains. This protein and its associated gene were discovered in 1968.
