He has been twice married, first to JosephineMary Scofield, by whom he had two sons,—James, an accomp-lished scholar and lawyer, and Edgar—both of whom died inearly manhood; and second, to Henrietta Brown Trembly. Alvah, born March 5, 1820, fitted for college at the Academy,and graduated from Dartmouth in the class of 1844.
