Dr. Hendley insists thatthe character of the early Jeypore enamels isTuranian, and not Persian. Speaking of thestaff, he says : We must also remember that theowner of this most venerable piece of enamel wasone of the pillars of a true Turanian sovereign, amost munificent patron of the arts, alike of hisnew home in India and of his ancestral dominionsin Central Asia.
