Stress is put on the breathing during his sons Upanayanam or Sacred thread ceremony. Upanayanam or the thread ceremony is the sanskara performed to mark the beginning of studenthood or Brahmacharya ashram for a Brahmin, Kshatriya or Vaishya boy, to formalise his eligibility to read and study the sacred books Varna. It is traditional for young Hindu boys to carry out this ancient ceremony in todays society even if they do not have any intention of becoming a priest. It is an important rite of passage.
