ThePacific Railway scandal, which was cheii the political sen-sation of the hour, furnished the aggressive young weeklywith most inviting subject-matter. By its attack uponSir John Macdonald and his party allies, who it will beremembered were charged with venality in the letting ofthe contract to the Pacific Railroad Company, Grip atonce made itself felt in the land, and has never sincefeared to strike at fraud and cori-upticu as they appearedabove the surface of Canadian politics. Many of Ben-goughs cartoons in the early numbers of Grip are amongthe best he has ever made.
