KINNAIRD, LORD KINNAIRD F the lands from whichthe surname of Kinnairdis derived the first pos-sessor on record isRadulphus, also calledRufFus, who receiveda charter of Kinnaird,except Pitmeodhell, fromKing William the Lionfor the service of onesoldier/ This charteris undated, but is wit-nessed by Andrew,Bishop of Caithness, andwas therefore granted inor prior to 1184, in whichyear the bishop further is known of this Radulphus, except thathe died prior to 1214, by which date his grandson is styled de Kinnard. No mention is found of his son, but thegrandson was. Richard de Kinnard. He had a sister Isabella; shewas married to John, son of Richard of Invertuyl,who got with her the lands of Dunort from her brotherRichard. There is also extant a charter in wliicli William the Lionconfirmed to Galfrid, Steward of Kinghorn, a grant of landin Kinbrichtorn made by Richard de Kinnard, grandson ofRadulphus. ^ This charter is also without date, but mustbe before 1214, in which year William the Lion died.
