As good luck wouldhave it, Malcolm found, in the person of an executive officer of theboat, a long-time acquaintance and friend; and under his direction the 75 party found excellent abiding-place upon a privileged portion of thevessel, from whence the finest views in every direction could be ob-tained. The water trips from New Bedford to Nantucket are among themost delightful experiences in summering afforded along the Atlanticcoasts. Stern and rigorous as the New-England shores may be inwinter time, there is an air and influence pervading them in summerwhich more than compensates for all their repulsiveness during thecold months.
