A fireman checks the discharge and intake valves on the side of a fire tender. Eureka, California, USA
Fireman operating the pressure systems on a fire engine, performing the annual hydrostatic tests. These tests are made on all fire hoses and couplings in service These hold tests are done by subjecting each length of hydraulic hose to very high pressure. During the test the hose is observed for other weaknesses that the hose may have when subjected to a specific pressure for a certain length of time. Hoses used by firefighters must be able to perform under tremendous pressure, and this verifies their ability to do so is to conduct regularly scheduled hose tests.
