ALTHOUGH the purposes of the annexed design are foreignto those of a garden, as a building it may often afford embel-lishment to the shrubberies, if suitably designed : in the presentinstance a retreat is formed in the centre, and the walls whichwould inclose the drying ground are disposed for training themagnolia; thus becoming a useful and pleasing feature of thegarden arrangements. The plan exhibits the requisites of acomplete laundry, suitable to a large establishment: its parti-cular advantages may, however, be introduced into a buildingon a small scale, and many of its points may be applied withadvantage to every apartment devoted to such purposes, andconsequently supercede many annoyances of the operationsin this department of domestic economy. The plan is separated into two parts—one disposed for wash-ing and the other for ironing, mangling, and folding linen:between the two apartments are situated drying forms,
