Sunny view water fountain towards trees and Star Spangled Banner Monument, Music Concourse, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, USA
The Music Concourse is an open air plaza within the Golden Gate Park. The plaza was excavated for the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. After the Exposition, the plaza was re-designed as a venue for public gatherings centred around music. Trees were planted, including London Plane, Wych Elms, Maples and some Walnuts. Three fountains line the centre of the concourse, and, dating to 1899-1900, the Spreckels Temple of Music (also known as the 'Bandshell') is the focal point at the west end of the concourse. Dating to 1888, and transferred to its present location in 1977, The Francis Scott Key Monument (also known as the 'Star Spangled Banner Monument) stands at the eastern end of the concourse. Claus Spreckel (The Sugar King) gave $75,000 towards the $78,000 building cost of the Temple of Msuic, which is built in classical style of Colosa sandstone.
