Caretos seen during the celebration of Carnival in Podence. The ancient Carnival (Entrudo) held in the village of Podence is one of the most important traditional events of northern Portugal. During the celebration, diabolical figures called Caretos roam the streets of Podence making noise with the rattles they wear around their waists. The celebration ends with the burning of a giant Careto.
