By this time—in course of twenty years—the French congregation had increasedto three hundred and seventy-five families. Even two Masses, as is customarythroughout the diocese, could not accom-modate the parishioners. Instead of en-larging the old building a new church wasagreed upon. Plans were drawn by Gil-bert, Charleton and Demar and contractsigned for twenty-eight thousand threehundred dollars. The old church wasmoved to a vacant lot and services heldthere while the building was going were begim in the summer. ST. ADELBERts (polish) church, MENOMINEE,. of 1900 and on June 16, 1901, it was sol-emnly dedicated in honor of St. Anne byBishop Eis, with the assistance of FathersAtfield, Dupras, Letellier, Bordas, Moli-nari, Polic, Zimmermann, Miller, Pakiz,Maciarcz and the local pastor. The churchis built of Portage Entry sand stone. Theinterior decorations and furnishings arefar above what even the exterior would 282 HISTORY OF THE DIOCESE OF indicate. The entire cost is forty-threethousand dollars, nearly all paid. In thebasement a four-graded school is taughtby lay teachers and the average attendanceis about one hundred and ten. RED JACKET.
