Commonwealth Shilling

Commonwealth shilling of 1653. After the execution of Charles I a republican coinage was produced with no face of a ruler. For the first time in the history of English coinage the inscriptions were in English and not Latin. This is the reverse of Alamy T2EP9Y. The coin is from my own collection.
