Cartonnage Case ca. 945–712 Third Intermediate Period This cartonnage mummy case, along with , was excavated by John Cardwell, American Consul General in Egypt between 1886 and 1889, at the site of Meidum near modern Cairo. Both of these cartonnages represent a northern Upper Egyptian style seen from Middle Egypt to the Memphite region, and that perhaps may also have been used in the Delta. A single line of inscription, in this case so corrupted as to be practically unreadable, runs down the center of the front.
