Fig. 38 gives a view of the interior of first-class carriages for railways of 2 ft. 6 in. to 3 in. gauge; the interior dimensions being 18 feet long by 5 ft. 6 in. to 6 ft. 6 in. wide, there isample space for comfortable seats and for a good gangway along the centre. Fig. 39 gives the exterior view of the same carriage. It weighs 2^ tons empty, and with20 passengers about 4 tons.
