One of the towers of Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
One of the towers of Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia. The towers are found on each of the corners of the second and third stories of the temple, and are topped by these pointed cupolas, or domes. The stairs up to the tower are incredibly steep, and this is thought to be because reaching the kingdom of the Gods is not meant to be an easy task! Angkor Wat is thought to be the largest religious structure in the world, and is the best preserved of the temples of Angkor. It is thought that is was built as a funerary temple for Suryavarman II to honour Vishnu. Image taken near sunset, in March 2006.
