Victoria Island. Satellite image of Wollaston Peninsula on Victoria island, Canada. This island in the Canadian arctic has a long history of glaciation and shows the typical scoured landscape, moraines (glacial debris) and other glacial deposits. Penny Bay (white, lower left) remains ice covered into the summer, before beginning an annual ice retreat. When ice on the bay and the adjoining Dolphin and Union Strait is thick, caribou migrate across the strait between Victoria Island and the Canadian mainland. Imaged by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) onboard the Landsat 8 satellite, on 21st June 2014.
