Computed tomography (CT) scan through the chest of a 65-year-old man with cardiac insufficiency (heart failure). This is an axial scan, passing horizontally through the body at the level of the chest, with the heart at upper centre. The patient's aortic valve is affected by the presence of numerous atheromatous calcium plaques.
