Dachau Concentration Camp school children tour. Dachau concentration camp was the first of the Nazi concentration camps opened in Germany, intended to hold political prisoners. Dachau served as a prototype and model for the other Nazi concentration camps that followed. Near Munich Germany, opened in 1933 by Heinrich Himmler used for forced labor and inhumane medical experiments. For imprisonment of Jews, Jehovah's Witness religion members, homosexuals, ordinary German and Austrian criminals, and eventually foreign nationals from countries that Germany occupied or invaded. Dachau administration recorded the intake of 206,206 prisoners and deaths of 31,951. It was finally liberated in 1945 by American Army forces. Over 4,000 Soviet prisoners of war were murdered by the Dachau commandant's SS guard. The camp is now maintained as a memorial to the evil of the Nazi Dictator and his military leaders. 4K video.
