THE long seam boiler again demonstrated its ability to kill peopleand cause enormous property damage when a boiler of thisconstruction exploded at the mill of The McKeithan LumberCompany, Lumber, South Carolina, on April 26th. The mill had been idle for some time and was about to resumeoperations, the boiler plant having been fired up for this before a force of two hundred men were to report for work,the boiler exploded with terrific violence and if the accident had oc-curred a little later the casualty list would have been a long one. Asit was, two men were killed and the mill almost entirely destroyed,the damage being estimated at about $30,000. A view of the wreck-age appears on the front cover of this issue of The Locomotive.
