Lacekocot, Pader, Uganda. Friends and family gather for the wedding of Acholi couples on a refugee camp in Africa. Guest queue to give the traditionally western dressed bride and groom receive gifts. The guests are in traditional African dress and the wedding is in a whitewashed church in the village. Gifts include pots and baskets. There is much joy and happiness.
Lacekocot, Pader District, Uganda. 2009. Friends and family gather for the group wedding of six couples in the church at the Lacekocot Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Pader. The wedding was made possible by the donation of wedding dresses and wedding items from the United Kingdom. Over 100 wedding dresses were donated and will provide a sustainable income for Ugandan women, through a dress hire business. Lacekocot Internally Displaced Persons Camp is a livelihood support camp for households affected by the conflict in Northern Uganda. Those married are members of the displaced Acholi people.
