Fromthe inferior to the superior border of what remained of the jaw bone, was between one-third and one-fourth of an inch, and between theinternal and external surface perhaps less. The bone was twistedoutward upon its axis, causing the peculiar deformity of the facereferred to. There was a minute opening internally, correspondingto a point slightly superior to the mylo-hyoid canal and on a linewith the junction of the anterior border of the ramus with thebody of the bone, which I subsequently found to correspond tothe cavity from which I removed the specimen which I show you. During the first week in June I operated, assisted by Drs. Kingand Laidley. After he was anesthetized with ether, an incision. Jaw-bone and tooth, one-haif the true size. 498 Cases from Practice. [Dec, 1888. an iri^h and a half long was made in the line of the two openingsalreaay mentioned. In the attempt to remove the bony substance(it proved to be a tooth) the crown was loosened and broken off. Tb remainder of the tooth was taken out with a pair of toothforces a. The direction of the cavity was backward, inward andslightly upward. It was firmly imbedded in the jaw-bone. In alllikelihood the position the tooth occupied was due to the long con-tinue inflammation, resulting in the distortion of the bone. It issir fular perhaps that the presence of the tooth was not suspecteda\ e operation performed two years before, though it is possibleit a enclosed by bony tissues. The edges and sides for a part ofthe depth were carious: they were scraped, the wound partly sewedup and the cavity dressed antiseptically. Five weeks elapsedbefore it healed over. At present the wound is closed an
