Cold days following a hot spell the last of April shortened up the supply and continued low temperature served to hold back the blooming of seasonable stock generally, until the last few days. Now everything seems to be bursting into bloom at once, flood- ing the market with stock. There is a marked decline in values as a result of the ovcrsupply and it is difficult to effect a clearance. Late in the day the wholesale market is piled high with stock, whereas a short time ago would have found hardly a flower in sight after the early morning visit of the retailers. Roses still predominate in the daily offerings; consequently their position is weaker than most other items, although sweet peas, carnations and Easter lilies are not far behind. With Memorial day approaching, present conditions cannot endure many more days, which is some consolation. Orders have already been booked for fpiaiitities of stock for out-of-town ship- ment and indications point to heavy local requirements. There is no ques- tion but what stock in the aggregate will bo abundant, but the shortage of both gladioli and peonies gives cause for aii])rehensiou. If roses could be substituted for these flowers on ship- ping orders all would be well, but, as one of the wholesalers points out, noth- ing can
